error "Exchange server 2003 computers require upgrade to SP2" at install.
I'm havingan issue installing Exchange 2007 onWindows Server 2008. I get the"Exchange server 2003 computers require upgrade to SP2" error message after selecting my Exchange 2003 e-mail server on the Mail Flow Settings page. My Exchange 2003 server is v6.5 (Build 7638.2 SP2). We also have a BES server v4.1.6 MR3 which I installed Exchange 2003 SP 2 on. When I view the list of servers in the Mail Flow Settings page my BES server shows up as v6.5 (Build 6944.4) even though the update shows up as being successful in the event log.Has anyone else had this issue?Thank you in advance,Al

I ran ADSIEDIT and the Exchange 2003 Server shows serial number "v6.5 (build 7638.2 Service pack 2) the Blackberry Enterprize Server shows serial number "v6.5 (Build 6944.4). I had read someplace on the Internet that you can change the serial number using ADSIEDIT which I did to no affect when trying to install Exchange 2007. The BES server has had Exchange 2003 SP 2 installed successfully according to the event log.Ie-mailed you a copy of the installation log.Thank you so much for your help,Al

Then we believe that sp2 for Exchange 2003 Server has not be applied. Please re-apply sp2 and then reboot the Exchange Server.Besides, from the log,we found a warning ([2/11/2009 2:51:21 PM] [1] [ERROR] A reboot from a previous installation is pending. Please restart the system and rerun setup.) which indicated that the server which we want to install Exchange 20007 need to reboot, another setup need to complete.Regards,Xiu

I re-installed Exchange 2003 SP2 on my Exchange 2003 server and rebooted it. I also rebooted my Exchange 2007 (new installation) server. As a precaution I also re-installed Exchange 2003 SP2 on my Blackberry Enterprize Server. I then tried to install Exchange 2007 again and got the same error messages. I believe the reboot part of the error log is incorrect because I've rebooted this server after each failed install. Is there any other information that I can give you to help with the resolution of this problem?I will e-mail the setup log again to see if this helps.Thank you for your help!Al

Hi, Please ensure DNS record for Server xxxxmail.xxxxnell.local, the error code indicate that DNS record cannot be found. Since it is a DC, please try to re-boot DC and then run dcdiag to see if DC is in good status. BTW, Is there any other DC in the environment? Domain Controller Diagnostics Tool (dcdiag.exe) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc776854.aspx Regards,Xiu

This problem has been resolved. I was able to install Exchange 2007 on my Windows 2008 Server by doing the following:The reboot pending message was in errro as the server had been rebooted before each installation attempt. Iremoved the following registry key- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager named PendingFileRenameOperations. As far as the"Exchange server 2003 computers require upgrade to SP2" error message I resolved this by running ADSIEDIT and changing the version number to 7638 under Configuration, CN=Configuration,DC=xxxxxx,DC=xxxxxx, CN=Services, CN=Microsoft Exchange, CN=Company name, CN=Administrative Groups, CN=Domain, CN=Servers, right click on CN=BES Server Name and select properties and then change version number to correct version number. That did the trick. Now all I have to do is configure this bad boy and migrate my users.
